DoD May Acquire Modification and Repair Rights for Aircraft, Ships, Vehicles, House Defense Appropriators Propose

As Congress and the military services consider easing restrictions on service members repairing their own equipment, House defense appropriators want to allow military depots to compete with companies for sustainment contracts. "During the current fiscal year, the Department of Defense may acquire the modification, depot maintenance and repair of aircraft, vehicles and vessels as well as the production of components and other defense-related articles, through competition between Department of Defense depot maintenance activities and private firms," according to Section 8027…
