Smiths Detection Nabs Contract from UAE Group for Cargo and Baggage Scanners

The United Arab Emirates’ Emirates Group Security has awarded Smiths Detection a contract to provide various cargo and baggage X-Ray inspection systems at that group’s facility in Dubai World Central, a purpose-built economic support zone around the new Al Maktoum International Airport. Under the contract, the company supplier four dual view HI-SCAN 180180-300kV-2is medium-energy X-Ray cargo inspection systems for pallets and LD-3 airfreight containers, two dual-view HI-SCAN 100100T-2is systems for screening oversized baggage and bulky freight, and two HI-SCAN 7555si system. The cargo screening system developed for the facility also includes centralized monitoring, where an operator dedicated to each machine works in a closed, isolated central control room analyzing the images. Smiths says the HI-SCAN 100100T-2is deployed for Emirates Group includes the new HI-MAT Plus technology that displays more accurate and better material distinction.

German Airport Orders High-Speed EDS from Morpho Detection

Safran Group’s Morpho Detection business has received an order from the District Government of Upper Bavaria for high-speed CTX 9800 DSi explosives detection systems (EDS) to be deployed at Munich International Airport for hold baggage screening. The compute tomography-based EDS system will be used to screen all passenger checked baggage, which is referred to as Level 1 screening, for select high-risk flights. The deployment will also help the airport prepare for the transition to Standard 3 explosives screening capabilities to meet upcoming European Civil Aviation Conference mandates. Morpho Detection has supplied Munich airport with X-Ray Diffraction Standard 3 EDS for more than 10 years. The CTX deployment is the first in Germany.
