DHS S&T Issues BAA for Defense against Malignant Synthetic Biothreat Agents

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate Chemical and Biological Defense Division has issued a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for development of an architecture for defense against malignant synthetic biothreat agents. S&T is interested in system studies related to research to identify gaps in technology and operational concepts and to support formulation of requirements for chemical and biological countermeasure development. Specific areas of interest are transit system defensive architectures and surveillance architectures to detect and or characterize a biological attack. The agency is also interested in research and development of next generation and novel methodological approaches to terrorism risk analysis, intentional attack analysis, scenario modeling and simulation to understand the impact of a biological attack on the country. CBP Issues RFI for Large Scale Medium Energy Scanner for Pakistan

Under its Container Security Initiative, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to identify vendors that can provide a large scale Non-Intrusive Inspection scanning system to Karachi, Pakistan. The medium energy system must be capable of scanning cargo conveyances prior from transiting to the U.S. The agency is also interested in any radiation detection equipment that could be integrated with the fixed system. The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate has issued a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for development of an architecture for defense against malignant synthetic biothreat agents. DHS Surveys for Handheld Radiation Survey Meters

The Department of Homeland Security, National Urban Security Technology Laboratory, has issued a Request for Information for handheld radiation survey meters. The information is being south for the Science and Technology Directorate’s System Assessment and Validation for Emergency Responders program to assess emergency responders making procurement decisions. The program conducts objective assessments and validations on commercially available equipment and systems and develops knowledge products that provide relevant equipment information to the emergency responder community. SOCOM Issues RFI to Evaluate Technologies to Determine Origin Point of Target Materials

Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and the Joint Improvised-Threat Defeat Agency have issued a Request for Information (RFI) to identify technologies for participation in the evaluation of tactical sourcing and attribution capabilities. The target materials include explosives, narcotics, and chemicals and origin points could be a production facility, person, network, geographic location or country. The focus is on technologies capable of trace analysis of elements, organics, and inorganics. The evaluation will take place at the Sensitive Site Exploitation Analysis Center between Aug. 8 and 19.
