*The Environmental Protection Agency has awarded Battelle Memorial Institute a potential five-year, $13.2 million contract to provide testing and evaluation of homeland security related technologies for the measurement, sampling, removal and decontamination of radiological, chemical and biological agents. Under the award, which is a follow-on contract as part of the Technology Testing and Evaluation Program, Battelle will review a number of products to provide reliable information regarding their performance.

*Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has awarded American Science and Engineering [ASEI] a $9.1 million contract for multiple MobileSearch HE (High Energy) systems for imaging of cargo and vehicles using both high-energy X-Ray transmissions and Z Backscatter X-Ray imaging to detect weapons, explosives, drugs and currency. The system can simultaneously detect both metallic and organic threats in cargo. The award was made using Recover Act funds. AS&E introduced MobileSearch HE last month (TR2, Sept. 30) and the CBP award is the first for the system.

*The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority has awarded a small contract to electronic systems security integrator Henry Bros. Electronics, Inc., to provide an intrusion detection system for Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Henry Bros. is teamed with Senstar, a provider of perimeter security solutions, and Dominion Contracting and IST, two local Washington, D.C.-based contractors. The contract is valued at just under $750,000.

*The Coast Guard has purchased 10 iDLMaxG handheld biometric and smart card readers for testing under the Transportation Worker Identification Credential program. The readers are integrated with CoreStreet‘s PIVMAN Client software. The iDLMaxG features a QWERTY keyboard, contract and contactless card readers, barcode, optical fingerprint, and optional magnetic swipe and machine readable zone readers with a digital camera, GPS and comprehensive communications capabilities.
