Engility Corp.’s [EGL] TASC business unit has received a $1.8 million extension from the Transportation Security Administration’s Office of Security Operations to continue providing test exercises at airport checkpoints to allow time for the Government Accountability Office to resolve a protest. Engility is the incumbent contractor but lost the recompetition of the work and subsequently protested the result. The GAO is slated to adjudicate the matter by Jan. 19, 2016. The new contract modification will allow the TSA Aviation Screening Assessment Program to conduct up to 10 full assessments and tests at 85 checkpoint sites.
Morpho Detection has received a $1 million contract from the Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate to develop and build a retrofit kit for the company’s desktop Itemiser DX explosives trace detector (ETD) for application to the air cargo market. The Advanced Itemiser DX Air Cargo ETD is designed to enhance detection capabilities for new explosives threats and increase the threat library capacity. Morpho Detection, part of Safran Group, will deliver three prototype kits for DHS S&T validation in early 2016.
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has been named a supporting laboratory to the Department of Homeland Security’s National Infrastructure Simulation and AnalysisCenter, which addresses the potential vulnerabilities and consequences of disruption to America’s critical infrastructure. PNNL will contribute advanced computer modeling and simulation capabilities to look at the dependencies, interdependencies, vulnerabilities, and complexities of important critical infrastructure sectors such as dams, water, transportation, and energy and information technology.
