Atlas V Solid Rocket Motor Test Succeeds

An Atlas V solid rocket motor passed a burst test, a contractor reported. The burst test and re-qualification of the upgraded Atlas V Solid Rocket Motor composite case was conducted at an Aerojet test facility in Rancho Cordova, Calif., the firm announced. Questions have been raised whether the Atlas V or the Delta IV lifters could be used in place of the Ares I rocket to provide the next-generation U.S. space capability.
