The Army has issued a Request for Information (RFI) related to a proposed acquisition of up to 26 rugged, filed deployable mobile non-intrusive inspection systems based on backscatter and penetrating X-Ray technology to meet contingency operations in Afghanistan. The contract is advertised as full and open although American Science and Engineering [ASEI] is the only company that has a mobile, backscatter-based X-Ray system capable of inspecting vehicles and cargo in rugged environments. Separately, the Army’s Joint Contracting Command for Iraq and Afghanistan, has issued a pre-solicitation notice for 19 Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) systems for the Iraqi Ministry of Interior to detect contraband and weapons of mass destruction and mass effect in vehicles, railcars and containers.
