The State Department approved a possible $476 million Foreign Military Sale (FMS) request to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for AGM-114 R/K Hellfire Category III Missiles and equipment, training, and support.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the potential sale on May 11.

The possible sale includes 4,000 AGM-114 R/K Hellfire Missiles over the next three years in increments of 1,000 to 1,500 missiles as well as training and technical assistance. The major defense equipment (MDE) portion of the sale is estimated at $468 million.

The prime contractor for the sale is Lockheed Martin [LMT].

The UAE would use the enhanced capability of the Hellfire missiles to strengthen homeland defense. “The proposed sale will improve the UAE’s capability to meet current and future threats and provide greater security for its critical infrastructure,” DSCA said in a statement.

Implementation of the FMS would not require the assignment of any additional U.S. government or contractor representatives to the UAE.
