TSA Warehousing Backscatter Body Scanners It Planned To Move To Smaller Airports

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is warehousing 91 backscatter X-ray-based body imager machines that it originally planned to redeploy from large airports to small airports because of continued difficulties in developing threat recognition software for the systems, according to government officials. TSA made the decision in May that it would redeploy the Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) machines made by OSI Systems’ [OSIS] Rapiscan division and put millimeter wave-based AIT systems supplied by L-3 Communications [LLL] in their place in order…
