Tests Completed On Key Part For J-2X Engine In Ares Rocket

Engineers finished testing the workhorse gas generator in the J-2X engine, in the upper stage of the next-generation Ares I rocket, NASA announced. The Ares will loft the future U.S. space capsule, Orion, into orbit. Engineers at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., completed the last of 20 tests, finishing with the second of four planned sets of tests on the gas generator, which is the driver for the turbopumps that start the engine.
