SASC Bill Would Raise Amphib Requirement To 33 Ships

The Senate Armed Services Committee’s (SASC) fiscal year 2027 defense policy bill adds new provisions that would raise the Navy and Marine Corps’ minimum requirement for amphibious warships and extend the ability to buy several amphibious ships at once. The bill, published on June 16, would raise the legally required minimum number of amphibious warships from the current 31 to 33 while also directing the secretary of the Navy to deliver a report going over plans to sustain a continuous…
