Navy Submits 30-year Shipbuilding Plan; Warns Of Funding Shortfall

The Navy’s 30-year shipbuilding plan submitted to Congress yesterday warns the service will likely encounter significant funding challenges starting in the mid- to-late 2020s, when it plans to annually procure the next generation of ballistic missile submarines. The plan that begins in fiscal 2013 said the Navy will need to sustain an annual shipbuilding budget of $19.5 billion in the mid-term of the 30-year period or service’s warfighting requirements will be at risk.
