Navistar [NAVZ] yesterday decided to withdraw its protest of the Army’s awards for the engineering and manufacturing development (EMD) phase of its planned family of Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV).

“We will still pursue global opportunities with the Saratoga and we will consider participating in the production phase of JLTV down the road as well,” the company said in a statement.  “Following our debrief with the government, the company had concerns regarding the selection process and we had limited time to submit our filing. (Yesterday), Navistar decided to withdraw its protest following further internal review.”

The Army Aug. 22 awarded AM General, Lockheed Martin [LMT] and Oshkosh (OSK) EMD contracts totaling about $185 million (Defense Daily, Aug. 23).

BAE Systems late yesterday said its team would not protest the awards. In a statement, the company said it received its debriefing Aug. 30.

“While we are disappointed that the U.S. Army has bypassed our JLTV offering for the EMD phase, we respect their decision and will not contest it,” it said. Additionally, BAE said it was proud to be part of the Lockheed Martin industry team “and will continue to support the U.S. Army and Marine Corps and the men and women in uniform as a member of the Lockheed Martin JLTV team and through our many other military programs.”

The General Tactical Vehicle team, a General Dynamics [GD] AM General venture, received its debriefing Aug. 29, and is assessing the information it received, a company official said.l
