The House Appropriations Committee (HAC) approved a $512.5 billion defense appropriations bill that trims $3.4 billion from the Pentagon’s proposed budget, faces opposition from the White House, and cuts programs including the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. The HAC’s bill for fiscal year 2014, which the House will consider next, is expected to be opposed by the President Barack Obama because it adheres to House Republican budget plans that he rejects.
