Customs and Border Protection (CBP) this month released a solicitation for anomaly detection algorithms (ADA) under a pilot program to quickly obtain the technology for use with its large-scale non-intrusive inspection (NII) systems that scan cargo and passenger vehicles for potential threats and contraband.

The ADAs would reduce the time it takes for an operator to examine the contents of a vehicle or cargo conveyance thereby increasing throughput, and reduce the number of officer hours needed for NII examinations. The ultimate goal is to automate analysis of images created by the NII systems.

The procurement is being managed using the commercial opening solutions pilot program, which minimizes the amount of corporate and technical information required to attract non-traditional government contractors and to quickly select vendors.

Each contract will have a one-year base period and four one-year options. Written solution briefs are due by April 28. Solutions that are considered viable will be invited to submit a final proposal.
