U.K. MoD Invests In New Army Air Defense Missile

MBDA UK has been awarded a $60.8 million contract to explore what capabilities a land version of an air defense system could offer the U.K. armed forces. The future local area air defense system (FLAADS) is a ground-based missile system whose missiles can travel at 1,000 meters per second and is able to simultaneously defend U.K. territories against a number of threats, including jets or cruise missiles travelling at supersonic speeds, the MoD said in a May 1 statement.
