France’s Sagem Securite and Japan’s Hitachi [HIT] have partnered to develop a multimode biometric recognition module based on Sagem’s fingerprint identification technology and Hitachi’s vein imaging technology. The module will be developed and produced by Sagem, a division of the SAFRAN Group. Hitachi’s VeinID is a finger vein recognition system that is used to gain secure access to thousands of ATM machines in Japan. “By combining vein recognition with fingerprint analysis in a single, innovative module, we will be able to offer biometric equipment that boasts unrivaled security performance,” says Jean-Paul Jainsky, chairman and CEO of Sagem Securite. “Working with Hitachi as our partner also gives us the opportunity to develop our presence in the Asian biometric market.” The company says the new module will meet requirements for a number of applications such as access control, identity checks and secure payments.
