L-1 Identity Solutions [ID] has received a potential five-five year, $195 million contract with the State Department to continue providing support of Passport printing systems and related security products, technical support and maintenance needed to sustain U.S. passport production operations. The contract was awarded to L-1’s subsidiary Trans Digital Technologies Corp., which has helped the State Department for more than a decade with the Toppan MP300US passport printing system. “This contract is an important validation for our business and underscores the confidence that our customers place in us with the most critical of missions,” says Robert LaPenta, chairman, president and CEO of L-1. Separately, the company has received a new $6.2 million task order under an existing contract for its HIIDE mobile biometric recognition devices to be deployed in areas of conflict. L-1 says that about half of the order will be shipped in the fourth quarter and the rest in the first half of 2010.
