Northrop Given $206 Million Air Force Space And Missile Contract For Support Services

The Air Force gave Northrop Grumman Corp. [NOC] a contract worth up to $206 million to provide support to space-related programs.

Northrop will provide technical support for the operational Defense Support Program (DSP) spacecraft, primary infrared sensor and mission analysis, under the Air

Force Space and Missile Systems Center contract.

The cost-plus-award-fee contract is valued at $206 million, assuming the initial year in the pact is followed by four one-year options.

Northrop built the DSP infrared sensors in Azusa, Calif., and integrated them with the DSP spacecraft in Redondo Beach, Calif.

DSP support and sustainment will continue at both sites. The first DSP was launched in 1970 and the final DSP was orbited in 2007.

The spacecraft and sensor were upgraded several times throughout production to protect against evolving worldwide threats.

Space Systems/Loral Gains Satellite Contract

Space Systems/Loral (SS/L), a subsidiary of Loral Space & Communications [LORL] has been awarded a contract for a high-power spacecraft from one of the world’s premier satellite operators.

A Loral statement didn’t name the buyer.

The satellite will be based on the space-proven 1300 platform, which has the flexibility to support a broad range of applications, and is designed to provide service for 15 years or more. This order represents Space Systems/Loral’s sixth contract award for the year.
