Coast Guard Seeks DHS Decision Thursday To Begin Polar Security Cutter Construction

The Department of Homeland Security this week will consider a Coast Guard request to give the nod to Bollinger Shipyards to begin construction of the nation’s first new heavy polar icebreaker in nearly 50 years, a senior service official said on Wednesday. A Coast Guard spokeswoman told Defense Daily that the service is seeking a production decision on Thursday at the department's Acquisition Review Board meeting.
