The Navy released a draft request for proposals (RFP) yesterday for its next secure enterprise network intended to succeed the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI).

The draft RFP for the Next Generation Enterprise Network allows industry to review and comment on the document to determine that the delivery approach does not hinder its ability to deliver the services at the lowest possible price, the Navy said.

“The release of the draft RFP marks a major milestone in the transition to NGEN,” Capt. Shawn Hendricks, the program manager for Naval Enterprise Networks, said.

The draft RFP is the final major document release before the issuance of the final RFP.

NGEN is intended to provide secure, net-centric data and services to the Navy and Marine Corps personnel. It’s the follow-on to the network originally consolidated in 2000 under the NMCI, which is the largest U.S. government information technology program.
