United Space Alliance To Layoff 15 Percent of Shuttle Workforce

The Boeing [BA] and Lockheed Martin [LMT] joint venture United Space Alliance (USA) recently said it will layoff about 15 percent of its current Space Shuttle support workforce to better align it with planned work and the current budget. The layoffs will be effective on Oct. 1 and are expected to affect between 1,100 and 1,400 employees, mainly in Florida and Texas. About 10 employees in Alabama are expected to be affected.
