Defense Ministers from Germany and Italy sent a strongly worded letter to U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta expressing their “grave concerns” about U.S. withdrawal from the tri-national Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS) program. “In a first estimate, the current U.S. position results in an economic damage to Germany and Italy of more than ($400 million)," the Jan. 29 ministers’ letter said.
