The Senate Armed Services Committee’s draft of the fiscal year 2025 defense authorization bill includes a provision that would extend the term of the commander of Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) to eight years. NAVSEA leads the programs that buy, build and maintain Navy ships and combat systems. Commanders typically lead the organization for three to five years. Former Vice Adm.
