Loveland Innovations Shows Why Invention Matters With Major Patent Milestone

PR Newswire

PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, Oct. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — The team at Loveland Innovations®, maker of advanced data analytics solutions and drone-based data gathering tools and services, announced today that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has awarded them their twelfth patent in eighteen months. At an average of one patent every 45 days since the issuance of its first, this strong pace of invention further cements Loveland Innovations as the technological leader in the roof and property inspection industries.

“When we founded Loveland Innovations, I saw a tremendous potential for drones and artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionize the roof and property inspection world,” says Jim Loveland, CEO and Founder of Loveland Innovations. “As such, we set out to create a new, intuitive solutions to the age-old problem of accurately inspecting properties and buildings. The quick recognition by the USPTO in rapidly issuing a dozen of our patents is a huge endorsement of the big ideas that let us change the industry.”

The team at Loveland Innovations uses technology outlined in their patents to add forward-thinking features to their automated drone-based data gathering and analysis solution, IMGING®. IMGING helps carriers, roofers, restoration professionals, and solar surveyors inspect, measure, and analyze roof and property information using automated drones and sophisticated artificial intelligence.

The 12 patents that fuel IMGING include technologies like:

  • Intuitive automated flight patterns – IMGING flights gather ultra-high-res imagery of entire roofs and properties in as little as 5 minutes. The platform can automatically detect damage like hail on these images, create inspection-grade 3D models with architectural grade measurements, and give users the ability to interact with the data.
  • Object detection and avoidance – IMGING taps into a DJI® drone’s sensors to allow the drone to autonomously fly and position itself to get extreme close-ups of shingles, flashing, and any other parts of the roof.
  • Virtual test squares – Virtual test squares let adjusters use automated damage detection to analyze images representing a slope-matched, 100-square foot area of the rooftop.

“We feel the best way to build great things is to find excellent talent, be nimble, encourage creative exploration, and let our engineers do what they do best,” says Leif Larson, CTO of Loveland Innovations. “Our success is largely thanks to our incredibly talented team of developers. Our patents are a testament to their inventive spirits, passion, and tenacity. We’ve come a long way, and yet we still have so many more great things on the horizon.”

IMGING is available as a complete software and hardware solution (The IMGING Inspection Kit) or as an app that runs on an Apple® iPad or iPhone. IMGING is compatible with the DJI Phantom 4 Pro, which users can source themselves, or purchase as part of the IMGING Inspection Kit. Loveland Innovations also provides on-demand drone-based inspections through a service called Drone Assist, which leverages a network of certified drone pilots and the IMGING app to deliver customers with property data in just a few days.
