Northrop Grumman-Built Satellite Antenna Enables NASA’s Discovery of Buried Glaciers On Mars

An antenna aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is enabling detection of huge glaciers on Mars, Northrop Grumman Corp. [NOC] announced. Northrop developed and built the antenna. Locating the glaciers is challenging, because they are covered by a layer of dust and rocks. The antenna was developed by Astro Aerospace, a Northrop unit in the contractor's Aerospace Systems sector, for the Italian Space Agency SHAllow RADar (SHARAD) instrument.
