Emergent BioSolutions, Inc. [EBS], and PharmAthene, Inc. [PIP], have each submitted proposals to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Request for Proposals issued earlier this year for a next-generation anthrax vaccine. Emergent BioSolutions' Recombinant Protective Antigen (rPA) vaccine is a reformulated and more stable form of the rPA 102 vaccine originally developed at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases. rPA 102 has completed one Phase II clinical trial.
