CAV Aerospace unit CAV Ice Protection launches an engineering consulting organization called CAVICE, specifically dedicated to providing ice protection expertise and counsel to manufacturers and operators of remotely piloted vehicles (RPVs).
The company revealed the move ahead of the 2012 Association for Unmanned Vehicles International show in Las Vegas, Nev., Aug. 6-9.
CAVICE will tap into extensive CAV Ice Protection expertise with Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) and High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) unmanned systems and thousands of manned aircraft, according to Kevin Hawley, CAV Ice Protection’s vice president of Business Development.
“The focus of CAVICE is recommending, developing, implementing and overseeing aircraft ice protection implementation for a wide range of RPVs, including MALE and HALE,” Hawley said. “Too many times, unmanned vehicles have to forgo a crucial mission when they have to fly through icing conditions to complete their tasks.”
Also, he said, “Technological advancements mean flight into known icing conditions is permissible for manned missions and available to greatly expand the flight envelope and operational effectiveness of RPVs in weather conditions where ice is present.”
CAV Ice protection Consulting Engineers have experience with testing, government approvals, component qualification, electrical system design, reliability, safety analysis, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, quality, manufacturing design and integration. The company has created proven ice protection systems for medium-altitude and high-altitude unmanned airframes and numerous manned aircraft, including the Hawker line of executive jets.
CAV Aerospace is a Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier with operations in the United Kingdom, Poland, the United States and Mexico.
