TSA Plans RFP for Shoe Scanning Device

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) next month plans to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a Shoe Scanning Device (SSD) system capable of detecting threat objects concealed in footwear without requiring passengers to remove their footwear as they pass through a security checkpoint. Threat objects include a wide variety of military, commercial and homemade explosives or explosive devices. The RFP is slated for release on April 25.
