Pentagon Unveils Record $671 Billion FY ’12 Budget Proposal

By Marina Malenic President Barack Obama yesterday sent to Congress a $671 billion proposed defense budget for fiscal 2012, which includes a $553 billion base budget request and another $118 billion to support operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. "This budget represents a reasonable, responsible and sustainable level of funding, the minimum level of defense spending that is necessary given the security challenges we are facing around the globe," Defense Secretary Robert Gates said during a press briefing at the Pentagon.…
