Lifting Ban on Mobile Phone Use in Flight – Do So Carefully Warn Commentators

The unfettered use of cell phones on airplanes in flight is fraught with social and technical questions, based on more than 7,700 submissions to the docket in response to a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) proposal to relax the current ban. Current rules require that cellular handsets be turned off once an aircraft leaves the ground to avoid interfering with terrestrial cellular systems.
