The Borders and Maritime Security Division of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science & Technology (S&T) Directorate has issued two Requests for Information: one for a research and development (R&D) project (RFI-08-00002) that begins in FY ’09 aimed at finding technology improvements to existing Non-Intrusive Inspection, both X-Ray and gamma ray, systems; and the other an R&D project (RFI-08-00003) that also begins in FY ’09 that seeks new and emergent technologies for a new type of NII system as well as emergent technologies that could augment existing NII systems. This second project will look at non-radiographic approaches and help Customs and Border Protection and the Transportation Security Administration do NII screening of ship, land and air cargo.
