The Air Force awarded Northrop Grumman [NOC] a Post Production Support (PPS) contract for LITENING G4 Advanced Targeting (AT) pod program, according to a company statement.

Under the terms of the $690 million, five-year, indefinite-quantity contract, Northrop Grumman will provide the LITENING program with G4 upgrade kits, updated Operational Flight Programs, integration and flight tests with F-16 Block 30, F-16 Block 40/50, A-10C, F-15E, B-52 and B-1 aircraft, in addition to studies and analysis, according to a statement.

The LITENING G4 pod targeting and surveillance system provides imagery using one-kilometer forward-looking infrared (FLIR), one-kilometer charge-coupled device (CCD) sensors, and a wider field of view and enhanced zoom, which delivers accurate target identification at longer ranges for battlefield conditions than previous generations of the LITENING targeting pod systems, according to a statement.

Northrop Grumman is the prime United States contractor for LITENING, which is developed by Israel’s Rafael. Northrop Grumman said in October it delivered the first 50 LITENING G4 AT pods to the Air Force as part of a $277.8 million contract with the service (Defense Daily, Oct. 24).
