Navy Moves Forward With Carrier Overhaul

The Navy has proceeded with plans for the mid-life overhaul and nuclear refueling of the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) aircraft carrier, awarding Huntington Ingalls Industries [HII] a $391.8 million contract in preparation for the work. The contract to HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding yard in Virginia covers advanced planning, ship check, design, engineering, procurement, fabrication and preliminary shipyard and support facility work for the Nimitz-class (CVN-68) carrier.
