IBM Protests FBI Biometric Award To Lockheed Martin

IBM [IBM] recently lodged a protest with the Government Accountability Office (GAO) over its loss to Lockheed Martin [LMT] for a potential $1 billion contract to develop a multi-modal biometric matching system for the FBI. What will happen next is unclear. The FBI declined comment on the matter. If the FBI has to suspend work on the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system that would be a "negative for the biometrics industry, particularly Cogent Systems [COGT] and L-1 Identity Solutions [ID],"…
