China's development of "high ground" space systems, including anti-satellite (ASAT) weapons, that can reach geosynchronous orbit 23,000 miles above Earth is a concern for the U.S. Space Force (USSF). "The U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency assesses the PLA [People's Liberation Army] probably intends to field ASAT weapons able to reach up to geosynchronous Earth orbit (GEO) at 36,000 km," according to a USSF Space Threat Fact Sheet posted by the National Security Space Association.
