The Air Force awarded Boeing [BA] an $11.4 billion contract to provide Saudi Arabia with 84 of its own advanced variant of the F-15 as well as systems and munitions, the Defense Department said last week.
The firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee, time-and-materials contract action covers development and procurement efforts for the 84 new aircraft: the F-15SA. Work will be performed in El Segundo, Calif., Ocala, Fla., and Cedar Rapids, Iowa and is expected to be completed October 2020. Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, is the contracting authority.
The White House signed off on an agreement Dec. 29 valued at $29.4 billion for the United States to provide Saudi Arabia with 84 new aircraft and the modernization of 70 aircraft as well as munitions, spare parts, training, maintenance and logistics, according to a statement.
In October 2010, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced the possible Foreign Military Sale to include, among others, 300 AIM-9X SIDEWINDER missiles, 500 AIM-120C/7 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air missiles (AMRAAM) and 170 APG-63(v)3 Active Electronically Scanned Array Radar (AESA) sets.
