The pilot of the CV-22—Gundam 22 (G22)--that went down last Nov. 29 in an exercise off Japan radioed the pilot of a companion CV-22—G21--that “we’ve got chips” in the left-hand proprotor gear box (PRGB) before the fatal crash that killed 8 airmen, according to an Accident Investigation Board (AIB) report, dated May 30 and released by Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) on Aug. 1.
