EDMONTON, Alberta, May 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — ACAMP partnered with Alberta-based Luau Data Corporation to deploy weather sensors for the NASA demonstration in Reno, Nevada. This deployment supports NASA’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Traffic Management (UTM) system, which is mandated to safely and effectively manage drone traffic in an urban area. Nevada Institute for Autonomous Systems (NIAS) was selected by NASA as one of two locations to host the demonstration.

According to NIAS, the NASA UTM milestone operation promises to develop a safe and reliable airspace platform to integrate drones into the National Airspace System (NAS).

A press release issued by NASA on February 19, 2019, “publicly announced the State of Nevada as an award recipient for the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Traffic Management (UTM) Technical Capability Level (TCL) 4 operation. This involves Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) flying in higher-density urban areas for tasks such as newsgathering, package delivery, and large-scale contingency mitigation. For the first time in U.S. Aviation history in a metropolitan area under beyond visual line of sight conditions, Nevada will conduct this NASA demonstration over several months in downtown Reno, Nevada” states NIAS.

With the adoption of drones and drone technology, there is an increasing need for the management of these systems when they are in use around civilians. According to an article published by NASA, “… there is no established infrastructure to enable and safely manage the widespread use of low-altitude airspace and UAS operations, regardless of the type of UAS.”

“ACAMP is proud to work with Luau Data Corporation on weather stations to support NASA and NIAS in the deployment across Reno for drone testing. These tests ensure drones are operating safely over populated areas.” – Ken Brizel, ACAMP CEO

“Luau Data is excited to take part in this demonstration and to sell weather stations that incorporate 3D wind, temperature and humidity to a worldwide market.” – Stuart Lomas, Luau Data Corporation CEO

Luau Data Corporation is supporting the demonstration and will continue to assist NASA and NIAS at the UTM test site through weather sensor deployments.
