Lockheed Martin‘s [LMT] Savi business unit has received $6.6 million in orders under the Defense Department’s Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) III contract to provide standards-based RFID devices, the first order for the devices, marking DoD’s conversion of RFID products to an open global standard that will support multi-national interoperability and innovative solutions that can leverage sensor-rich networks,” says David Stephens, Savi’s CEO. Savi received three orders for its devices including the ST-654, with is a data-rich RFID tag widely used to track shipping containers, vehicles and other large and valuable assets, and the ST-621, which is a lower cost, license plate tag designed for quick commissioning to track shipping containers, rolling stock and other conveyances. The tags are ISO 18000-7 compliant.
