QualSec [QLSC] is introducing its NanoNose electronic sensor threat detection device for the domestic and international security markets. The handheld NanoNose is based on the company’s patent pending ROder technology and can detect liquid explosives, nitrogen-based explosives, contagious diseases such as SARS and avian flu, and biological warfare agents. Utah-based QualSec says NanoNose provides results in less than two minutes. The company says the device is about the size of a personal CD player and incorporates a disc reader, a rotating fan for air sampling, a programmable and easily interchangeable disc for the contaminants to be tested, an optional breath intake device and a readout screen. The company also says the device is about one-third the cost of existing systems.
