Oshkosh Defense [OSK] has recently received $368.9 million in new orders for Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV), as it nears the end of its manufacturing contract for the program and with AM General

set to take over building the vehicles.

The company was awarded a $208.9 million order in early November covering JLTVs for the Army, Marine Corps and Air Force and a $160.9 million deal on Nov. 16, which includes vehicles for foreign military sale customers.

“We spent the last decade committed to learning, improving processes, establishing a robust supply chain, as well as a world-class team of experts to design and produce the most reliable light tactical vehicle in the industry,” George Mansfield, Oshkosh Defense’s vice president and general manager of defense programs, said in a statement. “We are extremely proud of our execution of the JLTV program, including its reputation as a model procurement project due to consistent on-schedule and under budget production.”

The Nov. 16 award included JLTVs for Mongolia, Romania, North Macedonia, Slovenia and Slovakia, Oshkosh Defense noted.

“The Oshkosh Defense JLTV has consistently demonstrated its ability to fill critical capability gaps and we are honored by the continued interest from international allies,” Mansfield said. “As the sole [Original Equipment Manufacturer] that can supply JLTV’s through Direct Commercial Sales, Oshkosh will continue our support of NATO, Allied and Coalition Forces that want to modernize their militaries with the JLTV’s battlefield-proven payload, performance, protection and network connectivity.”

AM General in February beat out Oshkosh Defense for the 10-year JLTV re-compete production contract, which may cover delivery of up to 20,682 vehicles and up to 9,883 JLTV Trailers, with the latter company having built the vehicles since 2015 (Defense Daily, Feb. 9).

The Army in May then awarded AM General an initial $196.9 million order covering 271 JLTVs for the Army and 206 vehicles for the Marine Corps (Defense Daily, May 25).

Oshkosh Defense said it plans to produce JLTVs into the first quarter of fiscal year 2025.

“The Oshkosh Defense Aftermarket team will continue to service and support Oshkosh-built JLTVs for years to come,” the company said on Nov. 16.

AM General unveiled the new JLTV A2 in October, and said at the time it’s on track to present the first eight vehicles to the Army in July 2024 before moving into production the following month (Defense Daily, Oct. 18).

Bob Putnam, AM General’s JLTV program executive director, told Defense Daily the new A2 version of the platform features around 200 engineering changes, with the company working over the next year on refining upgrades during the manufacturing ramp-up process and ahead of testing with initial vehicles.
