The European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) earlier this year approved three explosive detection systems (EDS) supplied by Morpho Detection and L-3 Communications [LLL] as meeting European Union (EU) Standard 3 requirements for detection and performance. Under EU regulations, new EDS purchases are expected to meet Standard 3 requirements by 2012. The recent approvals by the ECAC include Morpho’s CTX 9800 DSi in its new high-speed configuration, which can screen checked bags at a rate of more than 1,000 per hour, and its CTX 9400 DSi. Morpho Detection is a business of the Safran Group. The ECAC also approved the high-speed eXaminer XLB EDS system to the new Standard 3. The eXaminer XLB is made by Analogic [ALOG] and distributed and supported by L-3. The system is designed to process 1,200 bags per hour.
