Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.), the chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and an outspoken critic of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), yesterday said his committee and another will release a report today calling reform of the agency.

The report and analysis was prepared by the majority staff of Mica’s committee and the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Mica helped author the legislation that created TSA in the wake of 9/11.

A press advisory issued by the Transportation Committee yesterday said that TSA is “plagued by significant administrative and operational problems.” It also says that 10-years and $57 billion later, the agency “has mushroomed into a human resources bureaucracy of over 65,000 that has lots its transportation security focus.”
