The Department of Homeland Security's Science & Technology Directorate has issued a Request for Information on products and devices in the development state or deployed that can receive and provide audible, visual, textual, or speech alerts or warnings sent from local, tribal, state or federal authorities. The alerts or warning devices (AWD) would offer a low-cost solution to the general public consumer population to mitigate the economic barrier to owning a life-saving device.
