DHS Announces $48.6 Million In FY ’09 REAL ID Grants

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) yesterday opened the application period for the FY '09 Driver's License Security Grant Program, which will dole out $48.6 million to states that will improve the integrity and security of their driver's licenses. Under the congressionally-mandated REAL ID effort, driver's licenses must meet minimum standards including information and security standards that must be incorporated into each card. State licensing departments must also determine an applicant's proof of identity and United States citizenship status, verification…
