Coast Guard May Reactivate Third Arctic Icebreaker, Though More Funds Needed

By Emelie Rutherford Congress has given the Coast Guard $30.3 million to rehab a dry-docked icebreaker, though service officials say more money would be needed to bring back the cutter for up to a decade's worth of use. The 32-year-old Polar Star, currently in caretaker status, is one of the service's three icebreakers--vessels receiving increased interest because of ice melt in the Arctic.
