BAE Systems’ Norfolk Ship Repair facility in Virginia won an $87 million Navy contract to perform maintenance, modernization and repair of the USS Carter Hall (LSD-50) this year.
The contract, awarded Monday, specifically covers a fiscal year 2024 Chief of Naval Operations docking selected restricted availability (DSRA). This includes all of the labor, supervision, equipment, production, testing, facilities, and quality assurance necessary to prepare for and accomplish modernization and repair work.
The contract includes options that, if exercised, would raise the total value to $92 million. The work is expected to be finished by May 2025.
DoD said the contract was competitively procured with three total offerors, but as usual did not disclose the competitors.
One potential East Coast competitor was General Dynamics’ NASSCO-Norfolk [GD] repair yard. In January 2023 that repair yard won a $149 million contract for the maintenance, modernization and repair of the USS Arlington’s (LPD-24) fiscal year 2023 DSRA (Defense Daily, Jan. 20, 2023)
GD did not confirm or deny if it competed on this contract by publication time.
