The Marine Corps has officially cancelled this fall’s Modern Day Marine expo due to the pandemic, and will instead hold the event virtually.
The event was set to take place Sept. 22-24 at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia.
“While we are deeply disappointed to not be able to come together in person, as has become a Marine Corps tradition over the past forty years, we are preparing to ‘adapt and overcome’ through a first of its kind virtual experience – for the same September dates – that will maintain the cadence of progress toward fulfillment of the Marine Corps Force Design 2030, as well as keeping faith with our partner organizations, the Marine Corps League and the Marine Corps Association & Foundation,” the event organizers wrote in a statement.
Modern Day Marine often features discussions from senior leadership on programmatic opportunities and technology developments, as well as exhibitors showcasing new platforms such as BAE Systems’ Amphibious Combat Vehicle and Bell’s [TXT] V-247 autonomous tiltrotor aircraft.
“We understand the financial implications that this situation is causing for our exhibitors, sponsors, and partners. However, in true Marine Corps fashion, we also believe that current obstacles represent a chance to seize new opportunities to accomplish the mission that we look forward to revealing soon,” event organizers wrote.
