Fifth SBIRS GEO Missile Warning Satellite Complete, Ready for Launch Next Year

Lockheed Martin[LMT] said on Dec. 2 that it completed its fifth space-based infrared system (SBIRS) Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (SBIRS GEO-5) on Oct. 29 and that the satellite is ready for launch next year. Last month, the company also said that it has completed a preliminary design review (PDR) on the follow-on to SBIRS--the next-generation overhead persistent infrared (OPIR) Block O GEO satellites (Defense Daily, Nov. 10).
